In 1990, microinjection was done successfully by the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). This technique can be used for those who have too few sperm, or have sperm with poor activity that affects normal egg penetration to complete the process of fertilization. Under the microscope, normal appearing spermatozoon with good activity is selected and directly injected this into the cytoplasm of the egg with a microinjection needle to complete the process of fertilization. At present, the fertilization rate by ICSI in our center is more than 80% and considered as one of the more effective methods to treat male infertility.
